Welcome to Ashtanga Yoga Shala, a yoga school that offers authentic, effective yoga practices that value the rich history and philosophy of yoga. Our school is dedicated to providing personalised, gradual, and progressive instruction that honours the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga is a unique, intricate, and assiduously applied method of Hatha Yoga that was taught by the remarkable Yogi Sri K. Pattabhi Jois for over 60 years. This method of sequencing yoga-asana with the Vinyasa connecting movements was once advised and outlined by an Indian sage - Vamana Rishi. The practice is renowned for its very detailed, breath-focussed sequencing of yoga-asana, and each asana unfolds into another, linked by 'vinyasa' in a continuous cycle. These posture sequences are energetic and challenging, cleansing the body, quieting the mind and releasing your inner potential.

At Ashtanga Yoga Shala, we are committed to providing quality yoga instruction with depth and understanding. Our classes are taught by Richard Clark, a certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher who completed the three-year Yoga teacher training program with Iain Clark and has been teaching for 20 years. Richard represents another generation of Yoga Teachers in this tradition, and he instructs with kindness, compassion, technical detail, and a view to your long-term yoga practice.

Our Services

We offer two types of classes at our school - the Ashtanga Yoga Shala 'Step 1 Class Series' and Ashtanga Yoga Mysore classes. Our 'Step 1 Class Series' is designed to introduce beginners to the foundational principles and practices of Ashtanga Yoga. This class series is taught in a group setting, and it covers the basic postures, breathing techniques, and philosophical principles of Ashtanga Yoga.

Our Ashtanga Yoga Mysore classes are designed for students who have a solid understanding of the foundational principles and practices of Ashtanga Yoga. These classes are taught in a self-paced, individualised setting, where students are guided through the sequence of postures at their own pace. Our Mysore classes provide students with the opportunity to develop a consistent, dedicated yoga practice and receive personalised instruction and adjustments from our certified Ashtanga Yoga teachers.

At Ashtanga Yoga Shala, we are committed to providing a supportive, inspiring, and peaceful environment for our students to learn, develop, and explore their yoga practice. We believe that yoga is a lifelong journey of self-discovery and transformation, and we are dedicated to supporting our students on this journey.

We offer classes at both Paddington and Sunnybank, Brisbane. Our Paddington Hall has been a humble but large, welcoming space that has been infused with energy via the efforts of so many yogis over so many years. Our Sunnybank Ashtanga Yoga Studio is a peaceful haven and an inspiring, supportive space, in which to learn, develop and explore an authentic yoga practice.
