Why Pilates?

Pilates is a mind-body exercise system developed in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates. This system focuses on core stabilisation and postural alignment to improve balance, strength, flexibility and general physical health. With over 11 million practitioners worldwide, Pilates is a great exercise system for people of all ages, fitness levels, and body types.

Bespoke Pilates Instruction

At Pilates Next Door, we offer bespoke Pilates instruction by a PAA registered and qualified instructor. Our philosophy is to keep classes small to ensure that clients receive personalised attention, and to maximise the efficiency of each session. With this in mind, we offer either individual 1 on 1 classes or studio classes (3 students, 1 instructor). We are located in the leafy suburb of St Ives, Sydney, and utilise top of the range studio equipment from Peak Pilates and Balanced Body, including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wundachair and other varied apparatus.

Our Instructor

Pilates Next Door is owned and operated by Irina Li. Irina is a fully qualified Pilates instructor and registered member of PAA (Pilates Alliance Australasia). She holds a Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction from the government accredited PilatesITC (International Training Centre) the premier Pilates instructional body in the Australasian region. Irina has practised many forms of physical training throughout her life, including Pilates, Yoga, dance and gym. Aside from Pilates, her primary loves are meditation, Reiki and Qi Qong, and she has extensive experience in mindfulness and mind/body practice. During the past decade she has spent much of her spare time on retreat in Buddhist monasteries and meditation centres in Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia. Prior to becoming a Pilates Instructor Irina worked as a Tourism Specialist based in Asia.
