Our mission is to provide high-quality dance instruction that is inclusive and accessible to everyone. We believe that dance has the power to transform lives, and we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and team-oriented environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
What We Do
When you join Yarra Valley Ballet, you become part of a community that is passionate, open, and committed to the well-being of each student. We take the time to get to know each student and their family, and we make recommendations for class placement that meets their goals and technical and social needs.
Throughout the year, we monitor the progress of students and their classes. We provide regular feedback and make recommendations for extension or areas of concern to ensure that each dancer gets the most out of their classes. Our teachers use a strengths-based approach in the classroom, focusing on the positive aspects of a student's character or technique while working on areas of weakness in the background.
Our Philosophy
At Yarra Valley Ballet, we believe that students of all ages experience optimal learning when their environment is safe, nurturing, team-oriented, and fun. We offer classical ballet tuition for students aged 4 and up, and we occasionally accept younger students who show social maturity and the ability to focus in a class environment.
While classical ballet is our primary focus, we also offer additional classes in Jazz, Contemporary, and National Character. These classes are available as complementary styles rather than the main focus. Students aged 5-9 years can choose from formal examination classes or recreational classes that shift the focus to enjoyment and creativity rather than intense study of the art form. Students aged 10 and up are offered formal examination classes only, as regular training is necessary to build whole-body strength and flexibility.
Our Adult School fosters joy, creativity, collaboration, friendship, and life-long learning. We offer our adults the opportunity to do formal exams, and we welcome students of all ages and aspirations to join us in their dance journey.
Performance Opportunities
Dance is a performing art, and we strive to give our students opportunities to shine throughout the year. While the past two years have prevented regular theatre events from taking place, we hope to remedy this situation in 2022.
In the past, our school has held two theatre events. Our first theatre event traditionally takes place at the end of Term 2 and is an informal theatre presentation. Our second theatre event is a fully costumed, stage-lit, curtained, and formal performance that takes place towards the end of Term 4.
