As a Registered Psychologist, I, Deborah Jackson, believe in the importance of knowing yourself well and living in a way that's true to who you really are - as an individual and as part of a connected community and the natural world around you. My approach is holistic, combining the strength and safety that comes from alignment with Psychology as a discipline with sensitivity to soulful concerns and mind-body intelligence.

My Path to Becoming a Psychologist

My journey has been marked by significant life events, which have shaped my approach to psychology. With a background in the corporate world, I encouraged leaders, teams, and organizations to listen deeply and find their place, their vibrance, the thing the world most needed and wanted from them, that they also most desired to offer up. I have also worked in university settings, where I have helped staff, students, and community members to move beyond fears and life challenges and step forward in life resourcefully and with purpose.

My Experience

For three decades, I have worked with individuals, organizations, and business leaders, always helping to heal, reveal, and express the essence of a thing. Along the way, life happened to me, and I chose it. I left behind comfort and cubicles and corner offices, a marriage and friends, dinner parties with matching plates and glasses, and went exploring. I've suffered chronic illness, been very close to death, lost everything twice, been excruciatingly lonely, and rebuilt. I have opened into mystery and unknowing; felt sense and expanded moments, exquisite beauty, and dark pain. And now, for the most part, I live now, for the most part, at one with the beating heart of it all.

My Approach to Psychology

As a psychologist, I know that our complex experiences can shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. I help individuals, organizations, and communities to understand and work with the complexities of human experience, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and chronic illness. My approach is integrative, drawing on evidence-based psychotherapies, such as CBT, DBT, ACT/Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Neuro-psychotherapy, and Trauma-informed care.

Counselling: I offer individual and group counselling sessions, providing a supportive and non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Life Coaching: I help individuals to tap into their creative power, exploring their values, goals, and aspirations, and providing support to achieve their desired outcomes.

Trauma-Informed Care: My approach to trauma-informed care acknowledges that trauma can have a profound impact on individuals and communities, and I work collaboratively with clients to develop strategies to manage symptoms and promote healing.

Telehealth Sessions: I offer Telehealth sessions, utilizing Zoom, ensuring that individuals can access my services from the comfort of their own homes or offices.

Complex PTSD: I have specialized experience in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma, including complex PTSD. My approach is holistic, acknowledging the interconnectedness of mind, body, and soul.

Healing Trauma Impacts: My approach to healing trauma impacts is rooted in understanding that trauma is not just a mind job, but rather an integrated mind-body-social-relational task. I work collaboratively with clients to develop strategies to manage triggers, reduce symptoms, and promote healing and growth.

Grief and Loss: I understand that grief and loss can be a significant challenge for individuals and communities. My approach is compassionate, non-judgmental, and supportive, providing a space for individuals to process their emotions and find meaning and purpose.
