Couples Therapy
In addition to individual therapy, Inner Space Psychology offers relationship and marriage counselling to couples using the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Based on 50 years of scientific research, the Gottman Method is designed to help couples develop new skills to strengthen their relationship, whether they've been together for months or decades. Through this evidence-based approach, couples can learn effective communication strategies, conflict resolution techniques, and strategies for improving intimacy, respect, and affection.
The therapy process begins with an Assessment Phase, which involves four sessions. The first session involves an initial consultation, where the couple meets with Amit to discuss their current issues and relationship history. Following this, each partner completes a comprehensive online questionnaire developed by the Gottman Institute. The results are then reviewed, and individual sessions are held with each partner separately. The fourth session brings the couple together for a feedback and planning session to discuss the assessment results and plan the treatment process.
The Treatment Phase is tailored to the unique needs of each couple and focuses on identifying and addressing specific issues that are hindering their relationship. Through this process, couples can learn new ways of interacting, communicating, and resolving conflicts, while also discovering the behaviours that predict relationship problems and learning alternative responses to strengthen their bond.
Research has shown that a more intense treatment approach can lead to more rapid and sustainable change, particularly in the early stages of therapy. At Inner Space Psychology, Amit is committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental space where couples can work towards a stronger, healthier, and more fulfilling relationship.
