Nurturing young minds, shaping the future, one child at a time.

JJ McMahon Memorial Kindergarten is a friendly community-based kindergarten located in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Established in 1951, we have been providing high-quality early childhood education for over six decades. We offer three-year-old and four-year-old programs delivered by enthusiastic and experienced tertiary qualified teachers, partially funded by the State Government. Our kindergarten is a warm and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, learn, and grow.

Our Philosophy and Policies

At JJ McMahon Memorial Kindergarten, we believe that children are capable, competent learners who come to us as unique individuals. Our role is to provide an environment that enables them to demonstrate their mastery of the world. We encourage children to acknowledge our first nation's people, care for the land, and discover the richness and cultural diversity of the world. We believe that children should feel safe, secure, happy, and empowered, with the right to be heard and have their thoughts and feelings believed and validated.

Our Premises

We are fortunate to have spacious and appealing indoor and outdoor areas that are always evolving. Our indoor areas are designed to provide a thoughtfully planned learning environment that supports children's development. Our well-equipped playrooms are designed to encourage children's creativity, imagination, and exploration. Our outdoor areas provide opportunities for children to connect with nature, engage in physical activity, and develop a sense of independence and self-confidence.

Our Staff

Our experienced and enthusiastic teachers and assistants are highly qualified in early childhood education. Our university-trained teachers plan and deliver programs that reflect their specialist knowledge of child development. Most importantly, all our staff love what they do and are committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for each child.
