Our Story
Jetty Road Retreat is owned and operated by the Kleinitz family of Nungurner, a third-generation farming family with strong connections to this area. Ray Kleinitz, the family's patriarch, first moved to Nungurner in the late 1940s from nearby Bruthen, where his parents had run the local pub. Ray and his family lived in a little shed on Nungurner foreshore before moving into a residence on the land where Jetty Road Retreat is located. Ray built the existing units in the mid '70s, operating these in conjunction with his wife, Maureen, whilst raising their family of seven children on their nearby dairy farm. Ray and Maureen's son, Stephen, and his wife, Kim, moved to Nungurner in 2011 to raise their young family in this beautiful setting. Stephen and Kim have taken on the management of Jetty Road Retreat from April 2012, giving Ray and Maureen more time to fish and enjoy their retirement.
Country House Retreat is also owned and operated by the Kleinitz family, providing a perfect farm stay experience for families and pet owners. Our retreats are a testament to our family's commitment to hospitality, tourism, and the community of Nungurner.
Our Connection to Country
Jetty Road Retreat acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work and rest, the Gunaikurnai people and the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia. We recognize and celebrate their continuing connection to land, water, culture, and community and remember that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and thank them for protecting Country since time immemorial.
