Discover the treasure, one piece at a time.

Michael Allen Antiques is one of Brisbane's most established and fascinating antique shops, operating from heritage premises on Stanley Street at East Brisbane. With a long-standing reputation for fair dealing and friendly, professional service, we specialise in selling furniture from the Georgian era (1714 - 1830) and earlier in Oak, Walnut and Mahogany. We combine these fine pieces with the best of the Victorian (1837 -1901) and Edwardian (1901 - 1914) periods, while adding a dash of French style and Australian colonial charm.

Our collection includes an extensive range of antique furniture, decorative objects, cast iron benches, earthenware pots, pictures, prints and mirrors, ceramics, glass and statuary. Our cabinets always have a small but select range of collectable sterling silver items such as picture frames and snuff boxes, domestic antiques including quality kitchen pieces, wine antiques and architectural fittings, and interesting period jewellery. We also keep a small range of mid-twentieth century (1950 - 1970) furniture by makers such as G Plan, McIntosh, Archie Shine in stock. These modern pieces in light timbers such as teak and beech, chrome and glass perfectly compliment Brisbane's modern homes and add depth and interest that can never be achieved with new pieces.

At Michael Allen Antiques, we believe antiques are for using and aim to keep a range of dining furniture, interesting storage options, bookcases and desks in stock. We fill any small spots with wine tables, umbrella stands, side tables, and display cabinets so that there is always something to suit every room in the house. Occasionally, we discover amazing pieces of architectural salvage and display these amazing pieces alongside our already eclectic selection.

Our Stock

We source new stock constantly, choosing the best and most interesting items from our local area, interstate, and overseas. We unpack three to four shipping containers of personally selected antique and vintage stock each year. While diverse, the items we sell are unified by their quality, rarity, and originality.

We sell all manner of antiques, large and small at reasonable rates. Our collection includes traditional furniture, boxes, decorative objects, ceramics, glass, silver, precious objects, domestic antiques, architectural and garden antiques, mid-twentieth century antiques, and dealer's choice. We don't like to limit ourselves to just one area, so we always have a diverse and ever-changing range of items in stock.

Our History

Michael Allen Antiques was established by Michael's father, Bruce Allen, in partnership with Jim Millar in 1972. They imported more than one hundred container loads of Georgian and Victorian furniture, glassware, jewellery and antique decorative items from England. Michael started buying and selling, under the watchful eye of his parents, aged 11 and then moved on to full-time antiques dealing in 1985. He dealt from Graham See's antique centre at Clayfield, then moved south to antique centres and a warehouse in Sydney. Soon after, he was joined by Vanessa, and they settled together at their present location in East Brisbane in 1991.

Our Team

Michael and Vanessa have a personal love of early furniture as well as Georgian and Victorian novelties, so you will always find these in their shop. They believe antiques are for using, so they try to keep a range of relaxed tables, interesting storage options, bookcases, etc. in stock. If looking for a unique gift, they have jewellery, silver, small furniture and a range of other items to choose from.

Our daughter, Lucinda, happily plays in the shop and shows an early interest in antiques. We are a proud member of the Queensland Antique Dealers Association.
