We are a traditional Japanese Karate Dojo based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, and affiliated with Shotokan Karate International Australia (SKIA) and the Australasian Federation of Traditional Karate and Kobudo (AFTK). Our mission is to promote the art of Shotokan Karate, emphasizing discipline, respect, self-control, and self-improvement.
About Our Dojo
ACT Shotokan Karate Dojo is led by Sensei Mark Porreca, a 6th Dan Black Belt and member of the SKIA Technical & Development Committee and the SKIA Referees Council. He is qualified as a Karate Coach with the Australian Sports Commission. Our Dojo is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where students can learn and grow in their Karate journey. We offer regular training sessions at the Belconnen Community Centre, with classes tailored to suit beginners, intermediate, and advanced practitioners.
Our Services
We offer a range of services and activities designed to cater to the diverse needs of our students. Our training sessions focus on traditional Japanese Karate, incorporating various techniques, kata, and kumite. We also provide opportunities for our students to participate in interstate and international Karate seminars and tournaments, as well as Multi-style Training with other ACT Karate clubs. Additionally, we offer advanced techniques sessions, beginner's classes, and special events and workshops throughout the year.
Our Instructors
Our team of experienced instructors is dedicated to providing expert guidance and support to our students. Sensei Mark Porreca is our Resident Instructor, with Sensei Wally Dankiw, Sempai Hideo Sasaki, Sempai Rosie Cranney, Sempai Katherine Mountstephen, and Sempai Alfred Le serving as our Senior Assistant Instructors. Our instructors are passionate about sharing their knowledge and experience, ensuring that our students receive the best possible instruction and guidance.
