Our History

The Australian Academy of Shukokai Karate-Do has a rich history that dates back to the 1940s when Shukokai was founded by Chojiro Tani. Sensei Tani's unique style, which translates to "way for all, " combines the characteristics of Naha-te and Shuri-te styles of Okinawan karate. Our academy is a direct descendant of Shito-Ryu, and our instructors have trained under some of the most senior figures in Shukokai from Japan.

Our club history is a testament to the dedication and passion of our instructors, Brothers Rad and Miki Kujovic. They began their martial arts journey in the 1980s, training in Wing Tae Go Do, a hybrid martial art. However, it was their encounter with Shukokai karate that sparked their journey of excellence. They trained under Sensei Darren Olsen and later had the privilege of meeting and training with senior figures of Shukokai from Japan.

In 1998, Sensei Rad opened the Diamond Valley Karate club, which later became the Australian Academy of Shukokai Karate-Do. Our academy has been a member of Kimura Shukokai International (KSI) and has been fortunate to have trained with some of the most senior students of Sensei Kimura.
