Our Services - Cognitive and Academic Testing

At Hobart Educational Assessments, we provide cognitive and academic testing for children aged between 6-18 years in a convenient school-based setting. Our registered Educational Psychologists use evidence-based assessment tools such as WISC-V and WIAT-III, allowing for classroom observations and teacher discussions as needed. Our assessments assist in determining eligibility for funding support, identifying specific student learning needs, or entry into gifted/extension programs. Each assessment includes a separate parent/caregiver feedback session (either at the school or via phone/zoom) and a comprehensive report with practical recommendations.

Why are Children Assessed?

Assessments play a crucial role in understanding a child's learning potential and academic achievement, and offer valuable insights into aspects of a child's development. They can help diagnose conditions impacting a child's school achievement, such as Specific Learning Disorders (e.g., Dyslexia), Gifted and Talented, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and other conditions of childhood. Our expert Educational Psychologists are skilled in the science behind how people learn and offer tailored assessments for each child, enabling them to provide accurate diagnoses, recommendations, and support strategies. We firmly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to overcome learning obstacles and reach their full potential.

The Importance of Educational Psychologists

Educational Psychologists are experts in the science of learning, and our team at Hobart Educational Assessments is specifically trained to administer assessments and tests, interpret the results, and provide tailored recommendations. They provide essential support for students, parents, and schools, working together to improve learning, teaching, and educational environments. By collaborating with teachers and other school professionals, our Educational Psychologists help implement practical and effective strategies that cater to each child's unique learning style and needs.

What to Expect from an Educational Assessment

An educational assessment typically involves a comprehensive review of a child's abilities in various domains, including intellectual functioning, reasoning abilities, learning and memory, visual and auditory processing, and listening skills. Through careful observation, interviews, and assessment, our psychologists can identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide practical recommendations for support and intervention. The results from these assessments offer valuable guidance for parents, teachers, and school administrators to ensure that each child receives the most effective educational experience possible.
