With a strong commitment to helping children develop essential communication skills, our practice is run by Gemma Hillier, a certified practicing speech pathologist with extensive experience in the field.

Gemma is a passionate and dedicated speech pathologist, who has had the pleasure of working in various settings, including private practice, Education Queensland, and the Children's Developmental Service at Queensland Health. These experiences have enabled her to work with a diverse range of children, families, and therapy teams, allowing her to hone her skills in the assessment and intervention of communication difficulties.

Services Offered by Little Gems Speech Pathology

We specialise in the assessment and treatment of the following communication areas:

1. Speech/Articulation: We can help children who have trouble producing certain sounds or who substitute one sound for another. This may result in unclear speech, making it difficult for others to understand what they are saying.

2. Expressive Language: We work with children to improve their use of non-verbal and verbal communication, including vocabulary and grammar, to help them express their thoughts, needs, and feelings more effectively.

3. Receptive Language: We assist children in improving their understanding and comprehension of language, as well as helping them follow directions and process information more efficiently.

4. Late Talkers: We support children who are not talking or have a limited vocabulary by implementing evidence-based programs tailored to each child's unique needs.

5. Fluency: We provide intervention for children who stutter, using specialized training and evidence-based approaches to help them improve their speech fluency.

6. Literacy: We work with children on spelling and reading skills, focusing on phonological awareness and literacy development.

7. Phonological Awareness: We help children develop their ability to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds in spoken words, which is crucial for early literacy development.

8. Social Language: We support children in improving their social communication skills, including turn-taking, eye-contact, and asking questions, fostering stronger relationships and better interactions.

9. Feeding: We offer the Sequential Oral Sensory Approach (SOS) to feeding, an evidence-based program that helps children with feeding difficulties by addressing underlying sensory, oral motor, behavioral, and nutritional factors.
