I'm Jen Hawley, a passionate and experienced music teacher, and I would be delighted to help you develop your musical skills. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced musician, a young learner or a retiree, I am committed to providing personalised lessons that suit your individual needs and goals.

Services Offered

At Jen's Music School, I offer a wide range of services, specialising in guitar (acoustic and electric), bass guitar, ukulele, and singing lessons. I believe that music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or skill level, and I strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. My lessons cater to a diverse range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, rock, blues, gypsy, folk, and modern guitar. I also offer lessons on improvisation and stagecraft, songwriting, and jamming in the style of gypsy jazz. For those who prefer learning in a group, I conduct ukulele classes for both children and adults, separate groups for adults and children, and community music groups.

The Swingalong Ukestra

One of my latest projects is The Swingalong Ukestra, a ukulele community group that aims to bring the joy of music to the wider Melbourne community. This fun and engaging group is suitable for all ages and skill levels, and is a great way to meet like-minded people who share a love for music.

Customised Lessons

My teaching style is flexible and student-focused, and I believe in creating customised lessons that help you achieve your musical goals. I understand that every student learns differently, and I adapt my lesson plans accordingly. For those who may be struggling with their musical journey, I offer a helping hand to overcome playing hurdles, even if you drop in for just a couple of lessons with no long-term commitment required.

My Musical Journey

My own love for music began at the age of 16, when I joined an all-girl heavy metal band. Since then, I've come a long way, expanding my knowledge and skills through classical guitar training, cover band performances, jazz studies, and community music events. I've had the privilege of teaching at Kingsville Primary and conducting guitar workshops at community music events. These days, I am passionate about manouche gypsy jazz and blues music, and I co-founded The Footscray Gypsies and Supporting Women in Blues programs. My latest project, The Swingalong Ukestra, is my way of sharing my love for music with the wider community.

Fees and Reviews

I offer competitive rates for my lessons, with one-on-one lessons ranging from $35 for a half-hour session to $70 for a full hour. Pair and group lessons are also available at affordable rates. My current working with children check ensures a safe and secure learning environment for all my students.
