Giaconda Marketing Pty Ltd, established in 1985 by Rick Kinzbrunner, is a renowned winery situated in the heart of Beechworth, Victoria, Australia. With a firm belief in the potential of the region, Rick, a mechanical engineer by trade, transitioned into viticulture and later winemaking, bringing with him an exceptional understanding of the science and artistry of producing fine wines. Over the years, Giaconda has earned a reputation for producing some of Australia's finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and Nebbiolo.

Our Story and History

Rick's passion for wine began in the early 1970s, which led him to work in various wineries in California, New Zealand, and Europe. He later worked for the prestigious Moueix group in Bordeaux, contributing to Chateau Petrus's success. His thirst for knowledge and experience culminated in establishing Giaconda vineyard in 1982 in the Beechworth region, carefully selecting the perfect plot for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and a separate planting of Nebbiolo. Today, Giaconda vineyards span across 4 hectares, producing nearly 2,500 dozen bottles annually.

The Vineyards

The Giaconda Estate Vineyard sits on the foothills of the North-East Victorian Alps, providing an ideal climate and soil composition for growing exceptional Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz. In addition, Rick has established a single-hectare planting of Nebbiolo, 'Red Hill' in Beechworth, producing fruit under the Giaconda label. This unique location and terroir enable Giaconda to grow and create wines of remarkable character and expression.

Wine Production

At Giaconda, every aspect of wine production is meticulously crafted, from bud to bottle. Our focus on low yields, individual berry selection hand-harvesting, and gentle handling in the winery is crucial for preserving the delicate balance of fruit and natural acidity. The result is a range of wines that showcases the best the Beechworth region offers.

We offer a one-time annual release for a limited duration, featuring our latest vintage. Wineries and Vineyards

This winery is considered to be one of the best in Australia, particularly for its Chardonnay production. The winery's Chardonnay is often likened to the white Burgundy from the Australian village of Meursault, and its popularity is evident in the fact that it sells out quickly, with the entire year's stock being depleted within an hour of its launch.

The winery is not open to the general public, and tours can only be arranged with serious connections. Despite this exclusivity, the winery produces high-quality wines, including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot, and Nebbiolo. The wine production process involves natural fermentation and barrel blending, resulting in less than 50,000 bottles per year.

History and Significance

Giaconda, located in upper Beechworth, is considered to be one of the pioneering wineries in the region, putting serious Chardonnay on the map. The winery's cellar is a notable feature, with a solid granite rock cave style design.
