Improving smiles, improving lives
Topology Studio was founded by directors Amy Hallett and Darren Kaye in 2012. With a combined 40 years of experience in delivering projects with complex and unique briefs, our practice is driven by a passion for exacting design standards. Our philosophy is rooted in the understanding that each project is uniquely tied to its place, whether it's a natural, cultural, urban, or historic landscape. This consideration of the existing context, combined with our rigorous design process, ensures that every project we design is bold, rich, and meaningful.
Our Approach
At Topology Studio, we believe that great design begins with a deep understanding of the place and the people who will inhabit it. Our approach is founded on a rigorous study of the site, which we refer to as Topo-logy. This involves questioning and testing the brief to ensure we clearly understand your needs and aspirations. Through a wide range of possibilities are developed and tested, we seek to define the essence of the design, balancing functionality with poetic expression.
Light, proportion, materiality, and efficiency are the tools we use to bring our designs to life. Passive design strategies are integral to our approach, and we carefully consider the sustainability, longevity, and environmental impact of every material and element. Clear communication and a transparent process are essential to our work, and our directors engage with every client to ensure that each project is underpinned by equal amounts of passion and vigour.
Collaborations
We believe that drawing on the knowledge and experience of others is essential to creating rich and meaningful designs. We have collaborated with John Hallett Art + Design to produce special timber hardware for our projects, which has opened up new possibilities beyond the range of commercially available architectural hardware. We also have a strong connection with the design community in Melbourne, regularly participating in public events and collaborating with specialist designers to specify locally designed and produced furniture, fabrics, and lighting.
Awards
Our commitment to excellence has been recognized through several awards, including the Think Brick Awards and the Australian Institute of Architects' Tasmanian Chapter Awards. We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive for innovative and sustainable designs that bring joy to their inhabitants.
Our Projects
From residential homes to commercial and hospital projects, our diverse portfolio showcases our ability to adapt to a wide range of projects and scales. Some of our notable projects include the Brunswick Gallery House, the Albert Park Lantern House, and the South Melbourne Beach House. Each project is a testament to our dedication to creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful.
