Empowering Children, Enriching Communities

Norwood Community Preschool is a not-for-profit organisation that has been serving the local community since 1959. Located in Asquith, NSW, the preschool is set amidst bushland and parkland, providing a serene and peaceful environment for children to learn and grow. The preschool is licensed to enrol 25 children per day, aged between 3 to under 6 years old. Norwood Community Preschool is committed to providing quality education and care, with fees supported by attending families, NSW Government grants, and parent fundraising.

Our Vision and Philosophy

Our vision is to educate and support the children of today who will be our community leaders of tomorrow. We offer a warm and nurturing environment where each child feels that they belong, as well as providing a safe and healthy environment that embraces the 'Rights of the Child'. Our philosophy is centered on the belief that children are strong and capable and have the capacity to succeed. We offer a play-based learning program that is open-ended, collaborative, and allows children to develop skills at their own pace, explore, experiment, discover, and build relationships.

Learning Environment

Our learning environment encourages children to be active participants. We believe children have the right to make their own choices and decisions and promote spontaneous child-initiated activities. Our spaces are stimulating, enjoyable, and include a variety of natural resources. We promote reciprocal relationships between our staff, children, families, and the community, and provide an inclusive environment where equity, diversity, and respect are valued.

The preschool has a large outdoor play area, allowing children plenty of space to explore, play, and learn. Our outdoor environment includes a mud kitchen, sandpit, vegetable and sensory garden, and real grass to play on. We value a shared responsibility for our environment and have educated the return of up to three generations of families.

Program and Hours of Operation

We offer a play-based learning program that is open-ended, collaborative and allows children to develop skills at their own pace, explore, experiment, discover and build relationships. Our program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia. We operate from 8.15 am to 3.45 pm, Monday to Friday, and our terms align with NSW school terms. Meals are not provided, and parents/carers must pack morning tea and lunch each day. Norwood Community Preschool is not open on school holidays or public holidays, and fees are charged for term weeks only.

Wait list

Children may be entered on the wait list from 2 years old. Placements for the following year will commence in the first week of August. Should your child not get a place for the beginning of the year, their name will be kept on the list, and you will be offered a position when available.

Our Team

Our team of long-term early childhood qualified staff is dedicated to providing quality education and care. We are an inclusive environment between children, families, staff, and the local community, supporting your child's transition into local schools. As a community preschool, we are designed for children and community, not for profit, and reinvest any surplus back into the preschool.
