Our organisation is dedicated to supporting those who need it most, offering confidential and free legal advice to anyone who requires it.

Our Values

At Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre, we are committed to upholding the following values:

  • Access to Justice: We believe that everyone has the right to access justice, regardless of their background or circumstances.
  • Empowerment: We aim to empower our clients by providing them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their legal matters.
  • Respect: We treat all of our clients with dignity and respect, recognising the importance of their legal issues and the impact they can have on their lives.
  • Collaboration: We work closely with other community organisations and legal services to ensure that our clients receive the best possible support and advice.

Our Goals

Our goal is to positively change laws and policies for the benefit of our clients, while also providing free legal advice, community legal education, and conducting law reform. We are committed to making law more accessible to all, and to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the legal support they need.

Our Numbers

In the last year, we provided free legal advice to over 1,000 clients, conducted over 50 community legal education sessions, and assisted with over 20 law reform initiatives. Our organisation is made up of 5 administrative staff and 7 solicitors, all dedicated to assisting our communities.

Our History

Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre has been the South Coast's only legal centre since 1999. We were founded by Illawarra Legal Centre, which recognised the need for a legal centre south of Wollongong. After conducting a research project, a funding proposal was created to establish Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre, and we have been going strong ever since. We are funded by Commonwealth and State Government via the Community Legal Services Program which is administered by Legal Aid NSW.
