Welcome to Recherche Medical Centre, a family practice located in the heart of Esperance, Western Australia. Our team of 8 co-located General Practitioners, along with our Nurse Practitioner, are dedicated to providing comprehensive primary medical care to the local community. As active members of the Esperance community, our doctors have admitting rights to Esperance Health Campus and participate in the Emergency Department services, including the out of hours roster.
Our Services
At Recherche Medical Centre, we offer a wide range of services to cater to the diverse needs of our patients. Our services include general medical care, acute medical care, chronic disease management, and preventative health checks. We also provide telephone and video consultations with your regular GP, as well as telehealth services, which allow you to consult with Perth-based specialists from the comfort of our clinic. Additionally, we offer minor surgery services, including skin excisions and ingrown toenail removal.

Our doctors have a variety of special interests, which enable them to provide comprehensive care. We are proud to be an accredited teaching practice for the Rural Clinical School, and we are dedicated to providing valuable teaching to medical students, with the aim of attracting more doctors to the area.
Our Clinic Hours and Location
Our clinic is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, and is located at 64 Windich Street, Esperance, opposite Supercheap Auto. If you have any cold or flu symptoms, please phone our reception before entering the surgery. We also offer online appointments for your convenience.
Practice Issues
The majority of reviewers had a negative experience with the medical practice, citing issues with bulk billing, lack of empathy, and poor communication. Dr. John Spencer was specifically criticized for not listening to patients and only caring about taking their money. Dr. De Groot was criticized for providing non-professional care, failing to take a patient's temperature or cardiac pulse, and dismissing the patient's concerns.
Communication Problems
Several reviewers experienced poor communication from the practice, including being told to "google" their solutions, receiving unclear information about blood work results, and being asked to pay for additional appointments to receive test results. One reviewer was told to pay for a COVID-19 test without being tested.
Lack of Empathy
Many reviewers felt that the doctors did not show empathy or concern for their patients' well-being. Dr. De Groot was accused of treating patients like they were "lepers or plague victims." Several reviewers felt that the doctors were more interested in making money than providing quality care.
Unprofessional Behavior
Several reviewers reported unprofessional behavior from the doctors, including being dismissed abruptly, being told to "wait in your car, " and being asked to receive medical prescriptions through the window.
