Upon returning to Australia, he started his own business in Mayfield with his wife, Ina Stead. The business flourished and gained a reputation for manufacturing high-quality bicycles using Reynolds 531C tubing. Over the years, the business was passed down to Len, Craig, and now Aleshia Stead, marking four generations of the Stead family dedicated to the art of cycling.
