Welcome to Mostlycedar, your premier destination for antique furniture in Bathurst, NSW. Our family has been in the furniture trade for several decades, with a passion for cedar antique furniture that has been passed down through the generations. Our founder, Mac Gordon, learned the trade of restoring and French polishing from an English craftsman in Bathurst, and has since built a reputation for his ability to restore furniture to its original beauty. Today, Mac's sons Warwick and Angus are proud to continue the tradition, offering a selection of restored furniture that showcases the unique features and timber graining of each piece.
Original Finds
At Mostlycedar, we believe that there's something special about antique furniture that has been preserved in its original condition. That's why we offer a selection of colonial antique furniture that has been carefully sourced and curated, showcasing the unique characteristics of each piece. Whether you're looking for a cedar wardrobe with a moulded cornice and carved corbels, or a three-shelf whatnot with turn supports, you'll find it in our collection of original finds.
One of our latest finds is a cedar wardrobe from the colonial era, with a rich history that dates back to 1870. This wardrobe was originally crafted by Robert Thomas Carter, a colonial manufacturer of furniture and dealer based in Sydney. It later found its home in Bathurst, where it was owned by a family well-known for their involvement in Cobb n Co. Today, this piece is available for purchase, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of colonial history.
Restored to Perfection
At Mostlycedar, we take pride in our ability to restore antique furniture to its original beauty. Using traditional methods and high-quality materials, we restore each piece to highlight its special features and timber graining, just as the cabinet maker intended. From cedar swing mirror dressing tables to five-drawer cedar chests, you'll find a variety of restored furniture in our collection.
One example of our restoration work is a cedar two-height bookcase from the Federation period. This piece features two original glazed doors with adjustable shelves, as well as a base with two drawers and two doors with interior shelves. The cedar top and turned legs add to the piece's unique character, making it a standout addition to any room.
As Found
In addition to our restored and original finds, we also offer a selection of antique furniture as found. These pieces may require some restoration, but offer a unique opportunity to add your own touch to a piece of history. From a small pine-lined cedar four-drawer chest with original locks and escutcheons, to an Australian cedar wardrobe with a single mirror and cedar panels, you'll find a variety of pieces to choose from in our as found collection.
Thank you for considering Mostlycedar for your antique furniture needs. We hope that you'll find something in our collection that speaks to you, and we look forward to helping you preserve and appreciate the beauty of antique furniture for years to come.
