Our Services
At Beecroft Physiotherapy, we focus on early injury detection and screening, acute and chronic injury management, and preventative treatment and advice. Our goal is to help you live and play at your best, treating the cause of your problems and injuries. We assess for weakness and prevention of injuries, and our specialised back and neck assessment and strengthening MedX equipment can be used to assess for weakness and optimise muscle strengthening in muscle groups that are otherwise difficult to train specifically.
We know which muscle groups are prone to become weak and therefore likely to cause back or neck pain. Our specialist equipment targets these important muscle groups specifically and is used by most of our clients as a part of their physiotherapy treatment.
Our full rehab gym offers a unique fitness programme tailored to your needs. With our physiotherapy experience and knowledge of injuries, we can offer a training programme unique to you, custom-designed to target your problem areas and prevent further injury.
MedX Lumbar Extension Machine
One of our clinic's standout services is the MedX lumbar extension machine, a clinical device that measures the isometric strength of the lumbar spine. It can then be used to exercise the lumbar extensor muscles by isolating the lumbar spine. The machine has leg and pelvic restraints that prevent both the legs and pelvis from moving during testing, isolating the lumbar spine. A strength range of motion graph is gained by testing maximum lumbar extensor muscle strength throughout different points of the range of motion.
These results are then fed into a computer and compared to population norms, providing an objective baseline to compare the patient before and after the lumbar strengthening program on the machine. This information allows diagnosis to be substantiated and provides an objective baseline to compare the patient before and after the lumbar strengthening program on the machine.
The MedX machine strengthens the lumbar spine by isolating it using the restraints described above, and the patient exercises within the limits of their pain-free range. From the objective isometric tests described above, the patient is usually commenced on a dynamic exercise program at half that of the maximum isometric torque of the isometric test. On average, with a chronic low back pain patient, it is not unusual to see an increase in isometric and dynamic strength of 100% in fifteen exercise sessions. Exercise sessions consist of one dynamic session to muscle volitional fatigue, normally done twice a week, for 4-6 weeks, and then once a week for a further eight weeks.
At Beecroft Physiotherapy, we are committed to strengthening your lumbar spine, providing you with the tools and resources you need to live and play at your best. Our experienced professionals help you every step of the way, from early injury detection and screening to acute and chronic injury management and preventative treatment and advice.
