A Bushwalking Destination

The Grampians-Gariwerd is Victoria's most renowned bushwalking destination, with a broad range of walks, from short distance and wheel-accessible lookouts to longer day hikes and even overnight hiking opportunities. The area offers a wide range of walking opportunities from easy family walks to full-day hikes.

Rich Cultural History

The Grampians mountains are known as Gariwerd, home to the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali people. Their dreamtime tells the story of Bunjil, the spirit creator who made the world we see, and all of the plants and animals found today. Aboriginal art is prolific across the region, with over 200 recorded art sites. This is the richest array of Aboriginal art in southern Australia. Experience this ancient culture by visiting one of five art shelters open to the public in the area.

Wonderful Wildlife

The Grampians is the best place to see Eastern-grey Kangaroos up close in the wild. The Grampians-Gariwerd is Victoria's largest National Park, providing crucial habitat for at least 230 bird species, 40 mammals, 30 reptiles, 11 amphibians, and 6 native fish. 50 species in the park are threatened, including the Powerful Owls and Smokey Mice.

Wildflower Wonderland

The Grampians-Gariwerd is a truly diverse landscape with over 1000 species of flowering plants, 26 species of which are endemic, meaning that they only naturally occur here. There are wildflowers throughout all four seasons, but a visit in Spring is a must for all wildflower enthusiasts.
