Our Story
Our founders, Chris and Petra Lovey, met while working at the RSPCA over 30 years ago. They shared a passion for animals and went on to raise two children, purchase a 100-acre hobby farm in Kuranda, and eventually establish K9 River Retreat in 2014. Petra's extensive background in animal care, including a Diploma in Applied Science, Animal Technology, and experience working in boarding kennels, veterinary clinics, zoos, and sanctuaries, makes her highly qualified to care for your canine companion.
Our Services
We cater to the needs of small to large, active to geriatric, and super social dogs, ensuring they receive the love, care, and attention they deserve. Our facilities feature spacious, friendly bedrooms with comfortable human-grade mattresses and lounge suites, as well as five different large, safe, and secure outdoor areas with sand-pits, plunge pools, and agility courses. We pride ourselves on boarding a maximum of 15 dogs, using environmentally friendly products and premium food, including Australian-made 'Meals For Mutts' dry food and a special blend of homemade evolutionary complete and balanced diet.
