The World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) is the global voice for occupational therapy, representing over 633,000 occupational therapists across 111 member organisations and 1,100 approved education programs worldwide. Established in 1959, WFOT is committed to improving global health through its collaborative work program with the World Health Organization (WHO) and promoting excellence in research, education, and practice.

Our Mission

Our mission is to represent and promote occupational therapy worldwide, setting the standard for education and advocating for excellence in practice. We strive to ensure that occupational therapy services are accessible to all people, making lives fit for living through meaningful activity and participation. Our work is guided by our commitment to ethical principles and the belief that every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of health and well-being.

Services Offered by WFOT

As the global leader in occupational therapy, WFOT offers a range of services to support our members, including:

  • WFOT Approved Education Programs: WFOT sets the standard for occupational therapy education internationally and provides approval for entry-level occupational therapy education programs. Our rigorous accreditation process ensures that approved programs meet the highest standards of education and prepare students for successful careers as occupational therapists.
  • WFOT Approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programs: WFOT offers approval for continuing professional development programs, allowing occupational therapists to maintain and enhance their skills and knowledge. Our approved CPD programs cover a wide range of topics, from clinical practice to leadership and management.

WFOT Governance and Management

WFOT is governed by a Council, comprised of representatives from each of our member organisations. The Council is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organisation and overseeing its operations. The Executive Management Team, led by the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for implementing the Council's decisions and managing the day-to-day operations of the organisation. WFOT is committed to transparent and accountable governance, and we publish reports on our Executive Management Team and Council meetings.
